CuZn35 Brass Bar

Lead-free brass, optimized for cold forming. This alloy is recommended for stamping and deep drawing.  In contrast, it is not recommended for hot forming and its machinability is poor as compared with leaded brass. The electrical conductivity is 27% IACS. 

Cold formability is excellent, hot formability very poor. The alloy is very easily cold drawn and stamped.  It is one of the most suitable brasses for mirror polishing. Annealing in air requires subsequent pickling to remove the surface oxide layer. Annealing can also be done in a neutral (Argon) or reducing (cracked ammoniac,(N2+H2) atmosphere.The most performant microstructures and mechanical properties are achieved with annealing temperatures to  the lower bound of the temperature interval given above. Machining is difficult. Machinability is estimated at 30% on a scale with the free cutting brass CuZn35.5Pb3 at 100%
