Alloy C2745 is a lead-free brass that was created in response to commercial and residential requirements for lead-free brass in the plumbing industry. This requirement for lead-free brass in the plumbing industry was established in 2011 and enacted in 2014.

lead free C27450 (Alloy C2745) can be substituted for Alloy 377 without compromising the integrity of the finished part. This indicates that a product can be made that delivers similar strength, corrosion resistance, and quality at a cost savings benefit. Typically, the end use is lead-free plumbing products that meet plumbing legislative requirements. Alloy C2745 brass profiles come in various shapes, such as, hexagon, round, square, and other shaped brass rods and brass bars.

C28000 Muntz Metal, also known as 60/40, is copper alloyed with zinc. C280 Muntz is most commonly found in sheet and plate form. Cu Zn40 is considered a duplex alpha-plus-beta brass and has excellent hot-working properties but is less corrosion resistant than C464 Naval Brass. C28000 Muntz is commonly used in architectural applications, including decorative panels, elevators, trim work and signage. Compared to the yellow tones of C260 Cartridge Brass, C280 Muntz has a warmer appearance that readily takes to polishing. Industrial applications for 280 brass include baffles and tubesheets.

Cu-Zn alloys containing more than 15% Zn are susceptible to a dealloying process called Dezincification where the selective removal of Zn leaves a relatively porous and weak layer of Cu and Cu oxide. Corrosion of a similar nature continues beneath the primary corrosion layer resulting in gradual replacement of sound brass by weak, porous copper. Unless arrested this corrosion mechanism eventaully penetrates the metal, weakening it structurally and allowing liquids or gasses to leak through this porous mass.

Additions of As (typically 0.02 - 0.25%) to alpha brasses effectively produces high resistance to dezincification at normal operating temperatures. A further addition of Sn (up to 1.5%) further enhances resistance to dezincification and has led to the development of Naval brasses with good resistance in marine environments.
